Tecoma fulva

Deciduous shrub or small tree, 1-4 m high; branches glabrous or hirtellous, purple. Leaves opposite, imparipinnate, oblong in outline, 9-13 leaflets, rachis distinctly winged; leaflets opposite to somewhat alternate, oblong or ovate, 2-2.4(-3.1) cm x 1.4-1.6 cm, terminal leaflet slightly larger than laterals, lowest pair small, 8 mm x 5 mm, margin subentire to dentate or serrate, apex rounded or truncate or acuminate, base cuneate or unequal; rachis and abaxial surface of leaflets pubescent. Flowers bisexual, slightly zygomorphic, pentamerous, hypogynous, 4.5-5.5 cm long, 2.5-3 cm across, arranged in terminal or axillary racemes, peduncle pubescent; pedicels 8-9 mm long, pubescent; bracts caducous. Calyx tubular- campanulate, pale-green, eglandular, pubescent, 6-7 mm long; lobes 5, small, ca. 1.5 mm long, triangular, apiculate; calyx persistent. Corolla ca. 5 cm long, 2.5-3 cm across, bicolored: bright yellow and reddish-yellow , funnelform; tube ca. 4 cm long, straight or slightly curved, gradually widened from base, ca. 1.5 cm broad at throat, sometimes basal narrow cylindrical tube (3 mm wide) clearly demarcated, glabrous except in the sinuses between lobes; limb slightly 2-lipped, upper lip 2-lobed and lower 3-lobed; lobes imbricate, nearly equal, 1-1.4 cm x ca. 1.4 cm, obtuse, mucronate, margin with soft glandular hairs. Stamens 4, slightly exserted, didynamous, filaments 2-2.5 cm long, glandular-pubescent at base; anthers bithecous, apiculate, thecae ca. 4 mm long, linear, divaricate, sparsely pilose; staminode 1; occasionally 5 fertile stamens present and staminode absent. Disc brown, cupulate, 5-lobed. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary ca. 4 mm long, narrowly cylindrical, 2-locular, many ovules on each axile placenta in 2 series; style 3.5-4 cm long; stigma bilobed, ca. 2 mm long, lobes flattened, ovoid. Capsule 6-13.5 cm x ca. 8 mm, linear flat, beaked, tubercled. Seeds ca. 5 mm x 3.5-4 mm, compressed, 2- winged, wings scarious, ca. 7 mm broad.
